Assessment and Levels
On your child's report card, or on assignments, you may see the following terms used to describe their progress and assessment. They may be in combination. In the Intermediate grades, we equate the levels with percentages for the purposes of assessment or grading.
Examples include:
Level 4
80% (4-), 85% (4), 90% (4+), or 95% (4++)
Level 3
70% (3-), 75% (3), 78% (3+)
Level 2
60% (2-), 65% (2), 68% (2+)
Level 1
50% (1-), 55% (1), 58% (1+)
A student's overall level is based on their most consistent level of performance. It is my contention that with leveled work, there is always something that a student can do to improve their work and strive to achieve "near" perfection (i.e. 4++ = 95%). A quiz or test may show percentages that reflect the nature of the material and that could indicate 100% or higher (with bonus questions).
